Norm Van Brocklin ( born March 15, 1926 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota; † 2 May 1983; Social Circle, Georgia ) was a U.S. American football player and coach.

Norm Van Brocklin played from 1949 to 1958 as a quarterback and punter for the then Los Angeles Rams and 1958 to 1960 for the Philadelphia Eagles. Van Brocklin holds with 554 yards until today (2012 ) the record for most yards thrown in a game.

As a coach, he worked from 1961 to 1966 for the Minnesota Vikings and 1968 to 1974 with the Atlanta Falcons. 1971 Van Brocklin was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Achievements

Van Brocklin was elected nine times to the Pro Bowl four times to the All-Pro. He was twice ( with different teams, which apart from him until today (2012 ) no other quarterback succeeded ) NFL champion (1951, 1960) and was voted Most Valuable Player in 1960.
