Normande Cattle

The Norman Cattle, also called Normande or Norman race, is a breed of cattle.

The breed is native to the region of Normandy in northern France. Legend has it that Norman cattle from the cattle come from, who brought the Scandinavian Normans in Normandy. The fact is that the cattle breed was bred in the 19th century from local animal populations.

The breed today is a dual-purpose breed (milk and meat) with emphasis on milk yield. The milk is particularly useful for the production of cheese.

Characteristics

The animals have chestnut brown to black spots on a white background. The head is bright, the eyes are surrounded by a dark spot ( eye spot, called "glasses" / lunette ).

  • Milk yield from 3rd lactation 8000 kg with 4.30% fat and 3.50 % protein.
  • Cows weigh about 700 kg, height at withers 140 cm
  • Bulls weigh about 1,100 kg at withers 152 cm
