Norrland's University Hospital
Norrlands Universitetssjukhus (NIS), German Norrland University Hospital, is a hospital in Umeå with three functions. The clinic is local hospital ( länsdelssjukhus ) for the area of Umeå, Provincial Hospital ( länssjukhus ) for the province of Västerbotten County and the regional hospital ( regionsjukhus ) for the four northernmost provinces of Jämtland, Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten.
As a regional hospital, the NIS served nearly a million people, spread over half of Sweden. It also contributes together with the University of Umeå in the formation of, among others, doctors, nurses. The hospital has about 5,600 employees.
