North Caucasian (pig)

The North Caucasus Pig (Russian Ceвepoкaвкaзcкaя transcribed Sewerokawkasskaja ) is a multi-purpose breed of pig from Russia and Uzbekistan.

Breeding history

The breed was created under the guidance of PE Ladan in the Rostov Oblast and the Krasnodar region of Russia by sows the native Cuban pigs with boars of the breeds Large White, Berkshire pig and Large White pigs were crossed. 1955, the breed was officially recognized.

There are 14 sire lines and 36 sows families. The Meat subtype Don Pig ( Donskoi ) (DM -1) was recognized in 1978.

Occurrence

Main breeding centers are Gornjak, Pobeda and Donskoje in Rostov Oblast, Alexejewski in Mari El and Krasny Wodopad in the province of Tashkent in Uzbekistan. Breeding area are Oblasts Rostov and Volgograd, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions and Mari El in Russia and some areas in the Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Armenia. In 1980, 195,000 purebred animals the total number.
