North-West University

The North-West University ( Afrikaans: Universiteit Noordwes -, English: North - West University; Setswana: Yunibesiti ya Bokone - Bophirima ), short NWU, is a state university in the Republic of South Africa with offices in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark.

The North-West University was established on 1 January 2004 from a merger of the former Potchefstroom University and the University of the North West and was named after the North West Province.

Organization

The university is headed by a Vice-Chancellor, for management are in addition two Deputy Vice - Chancellor, an audit officer, two executive directors and the campus principals. The Registrar is responsible as the highest representative of the University for the award of degrees. The line is the University responsible, which defines, together with the Senate guidelines, and is responsible for financial planning and academic affairs.

The NWU is located on three campuses, the largest of which is Potchefstroom, which is also the main university campus. On campus areas are the five faculties:

  • Agriculture, science and technology
  • Commercial and Management
  • Education
  • Humanities and Social Science
  • Jurisprudence.

The faculties are divided further into schools, in total there are 14 schools and centers.
