Northern Ireland women's national football team

The Northern Ireland national football team of women representing Northern Ireland in international women's football. The selection is subject to the Northern Ireland Association and is trained by Alfie Wylie.

The Northern Ireland national team is the weakest of the four British teams and so far has never qualified for a major tournament itself. In a European comparison, the Northern Ireland selection is one of the weakest teams. Overall, the team has been able to win only ten games; contrast, are partially sensitive high losses, so that the team slipped in December 2004 to rank 83 of the FIFA World Ranking.

In qualifying for the 2011 World Cup, the team met with France, Iceland, Estonia, Serbia and Croatia. This Northern Ireland finished 3rd and was able to in the FIFA world rankings increase on place 63.

On 19 November 2011, the Northern Irish team was able to win against Norway and defeat for the first time in a FIFA World Ranking for more than 50 places higher ranked team for the first time. The team thus rose in the rankings in December to 10 places to number 54, until then best finish and was able in June 2012 further improved by one place. Meanwhile, rank 57 is occupied.

Despite a victory against the eventual group winners Norway and two against Bulgaria to qualify for the European Championship finals in 2013 was missed.

For the Olympic Games of 2012, the four British football associations had agreed that a pan- British team, the host country represents as automatically qualified team ( on behalf of the Olympic Committee of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). From Northern Ireland but only goalkeeper Emma Higgins as a "stand -by" was nominated player who did not play.

Algarve Cup

The national team participated for the first time in 2004 at the Algarve Cup in part, but always played in Group C against the weaker teams and finished third in the final standings the last place.

Cyprus Cup

Between 2011 and 2013, the team at Cyprus Cup took part, finished there but so far only the last place.
