Northern Plains Railroad

The Northern Plains Railroad (AAR reporting mark: NPR ) is a regional railroad in North Dakota and Minnesota. The company is based Fordsville (North Dakota). The company is owned by Gregg Haug.

History

The company was founded in 1996 to lease by the Canadian Pacific Railway subsidiary Soo Line Railroad routes from Dakota Junction in Minnesota to Fordsville (North Dakota) and of Fordsville on Devils Lake to Harlow and Omemee to Kenmare and operate. On 27 January 2010 the section from Devils Lake to Harlow was shut down.

As of 2000, the management began on the railway line Granville Mohall. This former Great Northern Railroad line was acquired by the Mohall Railroad (MRI ) of the BNSF Railway. For the 6th April 2001, the section between Lansford and Granville was shut down, because the only rail customers are located in Lansford and Mohall.

The operation guide on the also acquired by the Mohall Railroad from the former BNSF Railway Northern Pacific Railroad route from Voss to Honey Ford began in spring 2001. Portion of Voss to Forest River was shut down on August 4, 2008.

As of 25 October 2005, the operation began on leased railway Sarles Lakota. This former GN route was worden.Am acquired by the Mohall Central Railroad (MCR ) of the BNSF Railway November 21, 2007 the 71.5 km long section between the two junctions was closed down with the NPR routes.

Business

The company has around 60 employees in 2007 and 34 locomotives. This is to EMD GP7 EMD GP9, EMD GP16, EMD GP35 and EMD SD40 -2. The route network was the end of 2008 about 780 kilometers long. It 2006, around 17,000 carloads were shipped. Most important transport goods are wheat and barley at 63% with 21%. There are transitions to the Canadian Pacific Railway and in Ardoch for BNSF Railway in Kenmare and Thief River Falls.
