Fire Weber ( Euplectes franciscanus )

The fire Weber ( Euplectes franciscanus ), also called Feuerwida, is a species in the family of weaver birds.

Description

The fire Weber reaches a body length of twelve centimeters. The male has a spectacular rotschwarzes plumage. The females have the upper side a nondescript brown gray striped plumage. The breast and belly are yellow to whitish and slightly striped dark.

Outside the breeding season the fire Weber lives in large flocks. It breeds in small colonies. The male usually builds several nests to attract in this way several females. Its range extends from Senegal to Ethiopia.
