Norton LiveUpdate

Live Update is a software that has been written by Symantec Corporation. It ensures continuous product support by downloading and installing updates for its products, including virus definition updates for its flagship product Norton Antivirus.

The current version of LiveUpdate is 3.4.1.232, and can be downloaded from the Symantec Web site. Newer versions can also update older versions of Symantec products that had integrated the time of purchase an older version of LiveUpdate.

Modes

Live Update can be run in interactive mode or in express mode. In the Interactive mode (default) LiveUpdate downloads a list of available updates, then the user is given the opportunity to decide which updates to download. The express mode will download and install any available updates without user intervention.

Subscription

To run LiveUpdate and download product updates, including the latest virus definitions and intrusion detection signatures ( for Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Internet Security) a subscription is required.

Each Symantec product contains one of sale, usually one -year, subscription. After this period, a renewed subscription for another year product updates must be purchased. Normally, the Renew a subscription is not as expensive as acquiring a new version of a Symantec product or an upgrade.

Distance

Symantec allows the removal of LiveUpdate on a computer. However, this thus removes the update service of all Symantec products. The program, like all other Windows programs will also be uninstalled via the Control Panel.
