Norwegian Wood (novel)

Norwegian Wood (Japaneseノルウェイの森, Noruwei no Mori ) is a novel by the Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, published on September 10, 1987, Kodansha in two volumes. The Japanese paperback edition followed in April 1991 During romp at all universities in the country and worldwide student unrest, Tōru Watanabe (also the protagonist and narrator ) trapped in his indecision about the love of two women. Mysterious and silent Naoko and the fun-loving and extroverted Midori Kobayashi.

The novel was sold worldwide 13 million times.

Content

As the song Norwegian Wood is heard from the speakers of the incoming aircraft from the Beatles in Hamburg, the 37 -year-old Tōru Watanabe thinks back once again to the 1960s and the events that have since influenced his life.

Tōru, the same age his classmate Kizuki and his girlfriend Naoko are the best of friends and do almost everything in threes. At the age of 17 years, Kizuki brings quite suddenly and for some unknown reason. Since the other two is very difficult to process this loss, they pull right after they have completed high school, to Tokyo, making their separate ways. A few months later, they meet by chance in the subway again and created a friendly relationship. Talked is not much, but every Sunday they make together one more hour stroll through the streets of Tokyo.

After the end of the first year Naoko gets the unprocessed trauma to Kizukis suicide again. Incapable still with both feet and stand alone in life, it is brought by their parents to a special sanatorium with unconventional methods of healing. After the summer holidays Tōru learns the hungry live Midori Kobayashi know which embodies the exact opposite of Naoko. For Tōru itself paves gradually becoming more of a love triangle, since he can not decide for one of the two girls.

Filming

Was started in 2009 in Japan with the shooting of the film adaptation of the novel. Written and directed by Trần Anh Hùng come from the music to the movie by Jonny Greenwood.

The film opened on December 11, 2010 in Japan. On 30 June 2011, the film was released in Germany to the movies.
