NoScript

NoScript is an extension for the Mozilla Firefox browser that blocks on websites active content.

Properties

By default, all active content is automatically blocked. These include JavaScript, Java applets, Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and other Web technologies. In addition, there is also the ability to lock frames and iframes.

A release of pages via a positive list or only temporarily until you close your browser. Blocked pages are locked within allowable pages and executed only after a special approval.

An import and export function allows you to secure the positive list, for example, when reinstalling the browser. The synchronization of shares between different installations is possible.

XSS protection

NoScript provides protection against cross-site scripting, which prevents third-party content can perform malicious code in a shared website. Exceptions to this can be created using regular expressions.

ClearClick

A ClearClick Protection detects attempts by clickjacking and alerts the user with a warning, and other ways out.

Revision history

The 1.0 version of NoScript was published on 13 May 2005.

After more than five years and many sub-versions the version 1.10 was released on 14 July 2010. This was the last version that has commanded nor support for Firefox 2 and previous versions.

A few days later, on July 27, 2010, NoScript 2.0 was released. In addition to a reliable clickjacking blocking the XSS protection has been improved and added an import and export function.

Dissemination

With around 550,000 weekly downloads and 66 million downloads in total (as of 1 May 2010) is one of the most popular NoScript Firefox extensions.

Award

In 2006 won NoScript - version 1.1.4 - a "PC World Class Award".

Criticism

NoScript opens by default after each update without asking the manufacturer's website.
