Nothing Compares 2 U

Nothing Compares 2 U is a song published in 1985 by the U.S. musician Prince. He wrote the song for the group The Family, a music group he founded. The cover version of the Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor evolved in 1990 into an international commercial success.

Formation

Prince wrote the ballad Nothing Compares 2 U on July 18, 1984. During this time he was busy writing songs for the band's debut album The Family. This band was a musical side project of him that is to be assigned the genre New Wave and pop music. Prince played at Nothing Compares 2 U all the instruments himself, he recorded the song in a warehouse in Eden Prairie ( Minn. ) on, sound engineers were David Rivkin and Susan Rogers, with whom Prince more often worked in the 1980s.

The original version of Nothing Compares 2 U was released on the album The Family Park of the band of the same name on 19 August 1985 on the record label Warner Bros. Records / Paisley. The song is 4:31 minutes long and was not released as a single. Singer of the song is like Prince from Minneapolis ( Minnesota ) derived Paul Peterson - his artist name is St. Paul. Nothing Compares 2 U was until the release of Sinéad O'Connor no more attention, and the band The Family still broke up in 1985.

In 2009 united front singer St. Paul, the band under the name fDeluxe new.

Version by Sinéad O'Connor (1990 )

The cover of Sinéad O'Connor was coupled out in January 1990 as a pre-release single of her published in March 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Have not Got on the Chrysalis Records label. The single was produced by Nellee Hooper and O'Connor and became an international number -one hit. With their follow-up singles but the singer was not able to build on the success of Nothing Compares 2 U.

Nothing Compares 2 U was internationally awarded several gold and platinum status. For example, it was

Version of Prince ( 1993)

Only after Sinéad O'Connor had achieved worldwide success with her cover version, Prince took up its own version of Nothing Compares 2 U. On January 27, 1992 he gave a concert for invited guests only in his Paisley Park Studio in Minneapolis ( Minnesota, USA ), where he played the song live as a duet with the singer Rosie Gaines. This live recording was released on 14 September 1993 Prince's greatest hits compilation The Hits 1 and The Hits / The B -Sides of the label Warner Bros. Records / Paisley Park Records. His version is 4:57 minutes long and was only released as a promo single.
