Notoceratops

Notoceratops is a known only by sparse finds genus of bird Beck dinosaurs ( ornithopods ) from the group of ceratopsians.

From Notoceratops is so far only a lower jaw without teeth have been found, which today is also missing and not available for further investigations. The resultant lack of data for an accurate systematic investigation are available, Notoceratops nomen dubium is considered.

The fossil remains date from the Argentine province of Chubut and were first described in 1918. The genus name means " southern horn face", the only species described is N. Bonarelli. The find is dated to the Late Cretaceous to an age of around 70 million.

Apart from Serendipaceratops, one also only sparsely preserved Ceratopsia from Australia, Notoceratops is so far the only find of this dinosaur group from the southern hemisphere. Ceratopsia are otherwise known only from East Asia and North America, but these remains could indicate a larger area of ​​distribution.
