Notre-Dame-des-Landes
Notre -Dame- des-Landes is a commune with 2007 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loire -Atlantique in the Pays de la Loire. It belongs administratively to the district Châteaubriant and Canton Blain.
Geography
The municipality is situated approximately 25 kilometers north- west of Nantes. Neighboring municipalities of Notre -Dame- des-Landes are:
- Blain in the north,
- Heric in the Northeast,
- Grandchamp -des- Fontaines in the southeast,
- Vigneux -de -Bretagne in the south and
- Fay- de -Bretagne in the West.
History
The municipality is part of the historic Brittany. Created in the mid-19th century, the town has retained its original character with agriculture, livestock and rural economy.
Infrastructure
Since the early 2000s began planning a new airport under the name Aéroport du Grand Ouest, which aims at replacing the Nantes Airport. For 10 years, the affected residents of Notre -Dame- des-Landes protest with great determination against airport construction in their area.
