The Nou Castalia is the municipal football stadium in the Spanish city of Castellón de la Plana, the capital of the province of Castellón in the Valencian Region.

History

Until 1944 the club played in the Campo del Sequiol with a capacity of about 6,000 seats. In 1941, CD Castellón was promoted to the first division and they built a new stadium, because the space was no longer adequate. Then the Estadio Castalia was opened on November 4, 1944. In the 1980/81 season the team reached the summit of CD Castellón in the Primera División, but the construction of a new stadium failed for the time being. After an away game from CD Castellón in the Mini Estadi of FC Barcelona in the 1985/86 season, a new venue modeled after the small stadium it was decided to build in Barcelona.

On 5 August 1986, the construction began to the Nou Castalia with a cost of 350 million Pts (now the equivalent of € 2.1 million ). The cost was shared by the Valencia region; This province and the city of Castellón de la Plana. Ten months later, on June 17, 1987 inauguration was the new sports facility with the game CD Castellón - Atletico Madrid. At that time, the stadium took 15,000 spectators seats. The grandstands around are double-decker; block by block set with black and white plastic seats and a covered grandstand. In the 1989/90 season the club played again top notch and the arena was expanded to 18,000 seats. During the renovation of 1996, the capacity dropped to 14,485 places.

In the summer of 2005, capacity increased by an expansion to 16,000 seats; by, inter alia, the pitch absenkte to three meters. For this, the changing rooms and the press conference room have been renovated. 2007, the inputs were replaced and installed new electronic scoreboards.
