Ntcheu
Region
Ntcheu is a city in the central region of Malawi with 11,408 inhabitants ( 1998).
It is the capital of the eponymous district which has an area of 3424 km ² and 370 757 inhabitants ( 2003). Ntcheu located in the highlands of Dedza halfway on the road from Blantyre to Lilongwe.
Population
Many of the people living here are in origin Ngoni from what is now South Africa. They were under the Mfecane by the wars of the Zuluhäuptlings Shaka (1787-1828) sold over here.
Economy
As in the Dedza region, the people here live from potato cultivation, but also of cabbage and tomatoes. They sell these fruits on the street. The city draws its drinking water ( partially? ) From a valley in Chiole.
