Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill

Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill ( born 1952 in Lancashire, England) is an Irish poet.

Life and work

She was born in England as a child, Irish -born parents. After their return to Ireland in 1957, she spent most of her childhood in the Irish-speaking part of Ireland's South West. After completing her university degree at University College Cork in 1972, where she had studied Irish and English, she married against their parents' wishes the Turks Dogan Leflef and spent the next seven years abroad.

Shortly after her return to Ireland in 1980 she published her first collection of poems (An Dealg Droighin ). Meanwhile, she has also published plays for children and essays, among other poetry collections.

Your work has been translated into many languages ​​, including by Seamus Heaney into English. Even she is fluent in Irish, English, German, Turkish, French and Dutch.

She currently resides with her husband and four children in the vicinity of Dublin.
