Nucșoara

Nucşoara is a municipality in the county of Arges in the Great Wallachia in Romania.

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the southwest of Nucşoara Iezer - Papusa Mountains, a mountain range of the Southern Carpathians ( Carpatii Meridionali ), in the valley of Doamnei River ( Raul Doamnei ). In the north of the circle Arges, the place Nucşoara located about two kilometers west of the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 731, some 40 kilometers (23 km straight line ) north-east of Curtea de Arges; the county seat, Piteşti is situated about 79 kilometers south of Nucşoara.

History

The place Nucşoara was first mentioned in documents in 1547. The area of the township was owned by noble families, was delivered by them to the Monastery of Arges and Bradetu.

With the beginning of the unrest in the 18th century - the peasant uprising of 1784 - to flee many Romanian serfs from the outskirts of Transylvania to Wallachia and settled here in Nucşoara to where they early adopted the manners and customs of the indigenous population.

Located 2.5 kilometers southwest away from the village parish seat formerly Secături ( Engl. dryness or hollow head), was renamed in 1965 in Gruiu. On the territory of this village are always landslides, such as the noted in December 2010.

Population

As of the 2002 census, 1720 inhabitants were counted in the field of community.

The main occupation of the population are sheep farm, forestry and wood processing.
