Nuevitas

Nuevitas is a municipality and port city in the Cuban province of Camagüey. Was discovered the bay in 1492 by Christopher Columbus. Nuevitas was founded in 1775 and located since 1828 at its present location.

Geography

Nuevitas is located in the north of Guincho peninsula. In the city there is a large sea port, which is an important transshipment point for Cuban sugar and other products from surrounding farms.

Is split Nuevitas in the Barrios Primero, Segundo, Alvaro, Tercevo, Reinoso, Lugareño, San Miguel, Redención and Senado.

Although Nuevitas is not very big, but it is part because of its economic importance to one of the most important cities in Cuba. In addition, the city is located near the popular tourist resort especially among Playa Santa Lucía. Cayo Sabinal is located unimmtelbar north of Nuevitas.

The only waterway that separates Santa Lucía from Ensenada Playa Bonita, the channel of Nuevitas that connects simultaneously to Bahia de Nuevitas with the Atlantic Ocean.

Demography

In 2012, the municipality of Nuevitas counted 61 625 inhabitants ( census 2012). With a total area of 415 square kilometers, the city has a population density of 44.9 inhabitants / km ².
