The bull -head pond lily (Nuphar variegata ) is a plant of the family Nymphaeaceae ( Nymphaeaceae ).

Features

The Bull's Head Pond Rose is a perennial herbaceous aquatic plant. It is anchored to a rhizome, which has a diameter of 2.5 to 7 cm, in water depths of 50 to 80 centimeters. The petiole is flattened and winged upper hand in the margin. The Schwimmblattspreite is broadly ovate to oblong, measuring 7-35 × 5-25 cm and is 1.2 to 1.6 times as long as wide.

The hermaphroditic, flower radial symmetry have a diameter of 2.5 to 5 centimeters. There are usually six sepals present. There are many spirally arranged petals present. The seven to 28 scars rays end at the edge of the Scar disc or 1 times (up to 1.5 ) mm before. The flowering period extends from May to August.

The usually purple tinted fruits have a length of 2 to 4.3 cm and a diameter of 2 to 3.5 cm and are strongly ribbed. The seeds are from 2.5 to 5 mm.

Occurrence

The Bull's Head Pond Rose comes in cool temperate to North America in lakes, ponds, slow-flowing waters and ditches at altitudes from 0 to 2000 meters before.

Use

The Bull's Head Pond Rose is rarely used as an ornamental plant in garden ponds.
