Nursery (room)

A child's room ( formerly nursery ) is a space within a dwelling that is specifically adapted in its use of the needs of children within the family life.

In his role, a nursery is both a bedroom as well as living room. Equally important is its function as a playroom and social withdrawal space, so it should be sufficiently large (about 14-18 square meters per child). In the real present floor plans, the existing children, however, are created often smaller.

Size

In Germany no building code or other regulations about the size of children's rooms exist. Only in the GDR there was a provision that the children's room in new construction 8 m² was not allowed to fall below. In Austria, there is such a standard. However, in some states in the public funding of construction projects partially fixed minimum sizes, from which a home is eligible. This is often regarded (not everywhere) that a child's room for one person at least 10 m and at a double occupancy shall have at least 12 m². Generally one can find in the home design that has decreased with the increase of the size of the living room the space of the kitchen and nursery. There are also provisions on the nature and size of the windows, they are regionally different.

History

Children are a relatively recent development of the modern era, in Germany dive nurseries for the first time during the 18th century in the houses of the upper classes and to begin in the 19th century to reach other segments of the population.
