Nursing Interventions Classification

The Nursing Interventions Classification ( NIC, German care measures classification) is a classification used to describe nursing actions professional nurse.

History

Research leading to the NIC began in 1987. Were carried out and they are from the Center for Nursing Classification at The University of Iowa College of Nursing, the Nursing Outcomes Classification also developed the (NOC ).

The development of the intervention classification took place in four phases:

NIC describes nursing actions and is involved in a whole nursing classification to the various aspects of the nursing process by Linikings with NANDA -I ( nursing diagnoses ) and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC ) (outcomes ) to be able to map

Size and structure

At present, the taxonomy of Nursing Interventions Classification is in its fourth version. It is basically divided into three levels of abstraction:

  • The upper level with seven domains,
  • The middle level with thirty classes,
  • The lower level with 542 care measures.

Every care measure was also assigned a unique notation to use the NIC in computerized hospital information systems (HIS) can. Especially for this purpose, the NIC was registered in 2000 in the HL7. The computerized application also makes statistical analysis of questions from nursing science and quality management possible.
