O'Donoghue's Pub

O'Donoghue 's Pub (actually: O'Donoghue 's Bar ) is one of the most famous pubs in Dublin, Ireland. It lies in the Merrion Row 15, near St. Stephen 's Green in the south of the city.

Originally built in 1789 as a grocery store, he was in 1934 after the takeover by the O'Donoghue family throughout the pub. The pub is closely linked with traditional Irish music. Thus, for example, the well-known Irish folk band The Dubliners founded here and, in the early 60s their first concerts. Also many other influential musicians played in O'Donoghue 's Pub, such as Christy Moore, The Fureys, Seamus Ennis, Joe Heaney and Phil Lynott.

In the main room of the pub is located on one side a long bar and on the wall opposite a board for shutting off the glasses. The only existing seating is a bench and a few stools that are at the only table in the pub and are reserved for the musicians. The floor is made of uneven stone slabs. On the walls of the main room hang numerous memorabilia of the Dubliners, such as photos, autographs, posters or paintings of concerts the band.

There is also a pub called the lounge, where there is more seating and tables. Again, the guest must, as usual in pubs, get his own drinks at the bar. Since the lounge is a separate separate, one can also not hear properly the played live music.

Also noteworthy is the unusual nature of the beer Ausschanks and payment. Is the pub densely filled, it is almost impossible to get to the bar. In this case, the person is serving on (often the boss himself ) the filled pint in the crowd. These are long passed, until someone (usually Guinness ) keeps the beer. The customer enters the same route the money back towards the bar. Many regular customers to simply snap the pieces of money over the crowd to the bar.

1988, the pub was taken over by the host Oliver Barden who is carrying on the musical tradition. The restaurant is now one of the tourist attractions of Dublin and found in virtually every Ireland Guide.
