O'Fallon is a city with 21,910 inhabitants ( 2000) in St. Clair County in the western part of the U.S. state of Illinois. It is located in the Metro East -called eastern part of the metropolitan area of ​​Greater St. Louis to the approximately 32 km west town in St. Louis in neighboring Missouri.

History

The village was founded in 1854 with the construction of a railway station of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Named after the town was wealthy Colonel John O'Fallon of St. Louis. On May 18, 1854, the first building sites were sold at auction. The next year we built a post office and recruited German settlers to cultivate the surrounding farmland. On January 27, 1874 Location received the status of a village. As a result of a vote on March 14, 1905 O'Fallon became a city. The population of the town grew steadily, until 1930, when a decrease of 23 people was found.

Since the 1980s, accelerated the growth of the town. Through the construction of Interstate 64 O'Fallon was an important residential and commercial suburb in the metropolitan St. Louis.

From the O'Fallon film actor William Holden was born ( 1918-1981 ).
