O'Higgins Department

The department O'Higgins is located in the center of Chaco Province in northwestern Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the north by the departments Independencia and Comandante Fernández, on the east by the department of San Lorenzo, on the south by the Departamento Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana and to the west by the departments Chacabuco, Nueve de Julio and General Belgrano.

The capital of the department is San Bernardo O'Higgins. It is 190 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia away.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population of the department increased from 19,231 inhabitants (2001) to 24,913 inhabitants in 2005.
