O Costa do Castelo (English: The Costa from the Castle district) is a Portuguese film comedy from 1943.

Action

Daniel, who came from a wealthy family, pretends to be a simple driver and into a room to sublet to the also living there Luisinha to be near. The carefree fun-loving, all odds with cunning umschiffende Simplícito Costa also lives there to sublet, and makes for a turbulent and entertaining daily routine in the village atmosphere and a quarter. This is on the slopes below the Castelo de São Jorge, in the middle of Lisbon.

Reception

The scale as carefree comedy film is still one of the most popular representatives of the Portuguese cinema of the 1940s. In particular, the popular António Silva and the young Milú, popular figure and ideal beauty of her time, made ​​for a large audience. The emphasis of typical Portuguese motifs in scene decor and songs, along with a series of comic scenes and dialogues, made ​​the film a success. Some of the most sung in the film by Milú songs were known hit in Portugal, about Minha Casinha, which helped the band Xutos & Pontapés in their version 1987 breakthrough.

The film was shown several times on public television RTP and, after restoration by the Cinemateca Portuguesa, repeatedly re-released by Lusomundo, first as a VHS cassette, and 2002 as a DVD.
