O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit, BWV 210

O lovely day, desired time ( BWV 210) is a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in Leipzig for a wedding.

History and words

Bach wrote the cantata for soprano solo in Leipzig for a wedding. All five arias and recitatives two go back to his homage cantata O pleasant melody. For which occasion Bach cantata wrote is not known. Werner Neumann, it placed the wedding of Anna Regina Bose and Friedrich Heinrich Graf (April 3, 1742) and Christina Sibylla Bose and Johann Zacharias Judge (6 February 1744), Herrmann von Hase the wedding of Johanna Catharina Amalia treasure and Friedrich Gottlob Zoller ( August 11, 1746 ). After the Leipzig musicologist Michael Maul it could have been (1741 ) the marriage of the Prussian Privy Councillor Georg E. Stahl. The cantata text of an unknown poet speaks to an influential man who appreciates the music. The votes for soprano and continuo are written in calligraphy, probably as a gift for the newlyweds. The text speaks of the relationship between music and conjugal love and ends in praise of the groom as a promoter of music.

The cantata was performed in Bach's lifetime, probably at least twice.

Scoring and structure

The cantata is busy with Soprano, Flauto Traverso, Oboe d' amore, two violins, viola and basso continuo. Bach called them Cantata a voce sola.

The following arias executed in the " crescendo " to a festive conclusion.
