History and Program

After the end of broadcasting of Radio Austria International ( roei ) and the restructuring of the ORF foreign service began on 1 July 2003, the domestic program OE1 - the classical, cultural and information niche channel ORF - with some foreign language broadcasts exclusively on short wave were broadcast to broadcast worldwide on shortwave, but in severe length and transmit power. The frequencies remained the same as in roei, also he was in Europe via satellite Astra 1H, transmitted via World Radio Network and audio via the Internet ( streaming, podcasting ). OE1 International was organized by the budget cuts by Rainer Rosenberg. The cuts in the program and the transition from Radio Austria International on OE1 International were due mainly to the cost. Unlike other channels, the Austrian foreign ministry be not financed from the state budget, but the budget of the ORF. The supply of foreign countries is contained in the Broadcasting Act only as a discretionary provision. Therefore, since no own broadcasts would longer produced for the foreign, but only domestic shipments from the program OE1 used.

An old program element remained at first - shortened - get the English-language report from Austria ( and Report from Austria - The Week in Review ). It was broadcast at different times on short wave instead of the OE1 program, but finally closed on 31 December 2008. Other shipments were Insight Central Europe and info en français. Also ideas for a Spanish program were not implemented, only sent Noticiero de Austria in Spanish. The transmission mode was then restricted step by step dramatically.

Since 1 January 2010 is in Europe only a block to the Morning Journal (with messages in German language) and the classical broadcast Good Morning Austria 7:00 to 8:15 EDT on 6155 kHz ( 49 meter band ) on the air. Overseas Territories are no longer supplied since March 2013.
