OAIster

OAIster is a search engine of the University of Michigan, with which the metadata can be searched by different repositories. The records are collected via the OAI Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI -PMH ) via an aggregator and merged. The so-called OAI service provider can thus be described as a virtual union catalog for document server. With 18 million records of over 1020 servers (as of 11 October 2008) OAIster is one of the major search engines for Open Access content.

To secure the long-term operation since January 2009, the University of Michigan has worked with OCLC. The detection of the metadata was also passed to OCLC during the year. On October 30, the University of Michigan and OCLC announced that the transfer of the database had now been completed. The collected in OAIster bibliographic data were sometimes found only operated by OCLC WorldCat. OCLC working on a stand-alone access OAIster, which was implemented in January 2010.
