Oath of Salisbury

The Oath of Salisbury against William the Conqueror from August 1086 was part of a fundamental Lehnsrechstreform in England after the Norman invasion.

After William had resolved the original Anglo-Saxon counties after the invasion, he gave the land to his new Norman followers, who swore fealty to him in Salisbury. They were at first subordinate to him, and only then possibly other lords ( whosoever 's vassals They Might Be ).
