Oberalm is a market town with 4247 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the province of Salzburg in the district of Hallein, Tennengau in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in Tennengau in Salzburg. Oberalm is located directly on the Western Railway and is by the line S3 S-Bahn Salzburg quickly and easily reached from the city of Salzburg from. The regional bus line 160 runs from Hallein / grain stone place on Oberalm to Salzburg / Hbf.

History

The name is derived from the pre-Latin Oberalm Albantha ( presumably alpenkeltisch, " Illyrian " ), and is in river names ( supported) to Latin albus, white ', so probably in the meaning, the Almbach '. Oberalm is one of the earliest settled areas in the surroundings of Salzachtalbodens that until early medieval settlement continuity of space is secured pre-Roman.

  • Parish Oberalm: gothic, Saint Stephen, ordained; High altar from 1707, late Gothic marble pulpit, figures of saints by Johann Georg Mohr. 2008 renovation of the church and installation of a new organ.
  • Haunsperg: 14th century, now a hotel, is located right next to the church
  • Kahlsperg: 16th century, now home for the elderly
  • Winkl: today agricultural school Winklhof
  • Town houses: 17th century in the village are also among the attractions of the place
