Oberbüren
Upper Buren is a municipality in the Fürstenlandstrasse ( Constituency Wil ) of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Geography
With the villages Oberbüren ( 2,116 E. ), Niederwil ( 1,297 E. ) and Sun Valley ( 522 E. ) and the hamlet of dust Husen is the village at the confluence of the smoothness in the Thur. It is from the highway A1 Geneva -St. Crosses Margrethen and accessible through the exit Uzwil - Oberbüren; the main road running through 7 Oberbüren.
The highest point of the municipality is the Schentis on Side mountain in the municipality part Niederwil (660 m above sea level. M. ). The lowest point is 484 m above sea level. M. an der Thur, on the border of the municipality Niederbüren.
Oberbüren is surrounded by seven neighboring communities, namely Zuzwil, Niederhelfenschwil, Lower Buren, Gossau, Flawil, Oberuzwil and Uzwil.
History
Northeast of the smooth mouth on a steep slope on the Thur is the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gallen Mountain, also popularly known as the Monastery Glattburg. Here they found traces of early Celtic settlements from the Bronze Age (about 1000 BC). The Roman coins found evidence in Sun Valley and on the Glattburg and a treasure trove in Hörbimoos at Ufhofen. Tradition records of the monastery of St. Gallen mention Gebertschwil 744 for the first time as chiperativilare, Glattburg 788 as clataburuhc and Oberbüren 817 as Purias. Today's church was built in the founding of the canton of St. Gallen in 1803 from the parishes Oberbüren and Niederwil and the village Durstudlen that belonged to the parish Henau. Durstudlen, later " Thurstuden ", was renamed in 1880 in Sun Valley.
As of 1843 insisted on community area on the smooth cold water sanatorium Bad Buchthal. She was in line of known spa doctors and moved guests from a wide area to. A fire in 1907 made the bath to an end.
2007 Oberbüren was the scene of the kidnapping of Ylenia Lenhard.
