Oberndorf in Tirol

Oberndorf is a municipality with 2035 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Kitzbühel, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Kitzbühel in Leukental at the Kitzbühel Ache between Kitzbühel and St. Johann. The municipality is located next to the main town of several hamlets and extends to the Kitzbühel Horn.

Most important economic activities are tourism and a Hartsteinwerk. Until the 18th century copper mining was carried on Rerobichl.

History

The history of Oberndorf enough, as in the other places in the area, far back. In 1422 for the first time was a parish church, dedicated to the patron saint of the Apostles Philip and James, mentioned. In the 16th century, mainly mining was carried out in Oberndorf. Above all, the largest bay in Rerobichl the district Kitzbühel, the Holy Spirit bay, with its impressive 886 m depth, a masterpiece of the then mining. In just 55 years, it reached this depth. It was mainly mined silver. The mining was discontinued in 1774 and was then repeatedly resumed, but without much success. In 1969 and 1970, the South African Union Corporation Limited wanted to start mining again, but failed because of a citizens' initiative, because there are still silver and copper deposits in far deeper areas on Rerobichl available.

1875 was the Gisela pathway leading known by Oberndorf, opened. Opened in 1881, is the stop east of the community.

In 1892 they wanted to make Oberndorf an independent parish, but all efforts were in vain.

On November 15, 1898 we opened the new school building. Seven years later, the unveiling ceremony of the monument took place Hager.

In 1909, a private fire brigade was founded as a year earlier held numerous fires in Oberndorf. Even the church was badly affected.

In 1911 they tried again to separate from the town of St. Johann in Tirol. This time, it was believed, it was working, because the local council of St. Johann sought a division into three separate parts. These three communities should be St John's Village, St John's and Upper Village. However, this proposal was not pleasing at the state government and therefore did not get approval.

The year 1927 was for Oberndorf probably one of the high point in its history. The community has finally self-employed. On February 8, 1927 following enactment came about: "By July 1, 1927 Oberndorf is an independent municipality ," At the first municipal elections in 1927 was Mathias Hager, eagle Bauer, elected the first mayor.

1961 was the first time a ski lift in operation.

On January 1, 1966, the Raiffeisen Bank St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf opened its doors. The old blacksmith 's workshop and was used.

In 1984, the ring road by the Governor Ök Council Eduard Wallnoefer was officially opened. Thus, the daily traffic problems in the town have been eliminated and significantly improves the quality of life.

Today Oberndorf is rather still a farming town, but has in recent years but gained massively inhabitants. Thus, the 2,000 -inhabitant threshold was exceeded in 2005 for the first time. Coat of arms

The coat of arms which was awarded in 1975, contains a mine symbol: a golden mountain Haeckel (formerly Administrative and dignity of character in the Mining Administration ) on a black background and a deep shaft in red makes it refers to the heyday of copper mining. From this comes to 1870 the deepest shaft in the world, which is symbolized by the gently sloping shield divided into red and black box.

In Oberndorf several industrial companies have their location, particularly noteworthy is the company Fritz Egger GmbH & Co, one of the leading wood material and chipboard manufacturers in Europe. As well as the corporate headquarters of Klausner Group.

In 1938, a native of Oberndorf painter Alfons Walde painted a 43 X 61 cm image Oil on cardboard with the title village summer ( Oberndorf in Tirol).

Since 2009 Oberdorf station of the FIS Ski Cross World Cup. The night race is the best attended race of the series.
