The monastery Obra is a former Cistercian abbey in Poland. It is located in the village of Obra (municipality - gmina - Wolsztyn ) in the Wielkopolska Region on the River Obra.

History

Monastery Obra was the daughter of the monastery lekno (later monastery Wągrowiec ( Wongrowitz ) ) from the filiation of Altenberg in the Bergische Land, which in turn derived from primary Abbey Mori Moon, in 1237 by Cantor Sandivius ( Sendziwoj ) the Gniezno Cathedral from the Jelenczyk - Gender donated. The monastery was one of the three so-called " eau de Cologne convent " (see Monastery Wągrowiec ( Wongrowitz ), Monastery Ląd ( Lond ). The Conventual came to 1553 from the Rhineland. During the 17th century the abbot was General of the Order of Poland and Prussia. 1835, the monastery was dissolved. The church became a parish church. now is there a spiritual seminar.

Buildings and plant

The first specific indication of the buildings contains the visitation report from 1580. Shortly before 1600 a longhouse made ​​of brick was built onto the brick presbytery of the church. The new church was consecrated in 1596. A new monastery building made of brick was built from 1618 to 1633. It is the right of the church. In the second half of the 17th century, the monastery was largely destroyed. The church was rebuilt in the 18th century according to a project by Giovanni Catenazzi. It is a single- arched Rococo and was ordained in 1787 again.
