Oberwitz, Polish Obrowiec, is a town in Upper Silesia. Oberwitz located in the municipality Gogolin in Krapkowicki powiat ( county Krappitz ) in the Polish Opole Voivodeship.

Geographical Location

Oberwitz is located five kilometers south of the parish seat Gogolin, four kilometers southeast of the county town Krapkowice ( Krappitz ) and 25 kilometers south of the voivodship Opole.

Oberwitz located on the Oder. North of Oberwitz runs the A4 motorway.

Neighboring towns

Neighboring towns of Oberwitz are in the northwest Krapkowice ( Krappitz ), in the north Gogolin, in the east Jasiona ( Jeschona ) and in the southeast Krepna ( Krempa ).

History

The town was first mentioned in 1352. From 1869 to 1884, the church was built.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 127 voters voted to remain in Germany and 216 for Poland, in Gutsbezirk Oberwitz 77 people voted for Germany and 10 for Poland .. Oberwitz remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 730 inhabitants in the village. 1939, the place had 763 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district of Great Strehlitz.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration and renamed Obrowiec and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place to powiat Krapkowicki. On 30 April 2010, the City also received the official German place names Oberwitz.

Temple Mount

The Temple Mount or Kopietz is a hill on the Oder near Oberwitz. The wooded hills surrounded by an elliptical Wallring. There is a water-filled moat between the wall and the hill. Because of the shape is the Temple Mount, probably a man-made system, which was used as a castle wall. It is believed that the plant was built in the 12th or 13th century.
