Obshchy Syrt

The Obschtschi Syrt (Russian Общий Сырт ) is a low mountain range to the east of the European part of Russia. It branches north of Orenburg on the South Urals and extends into south-west to the Volga.

The 500- km long mountain range forms both the watershed between the rivers Volga and Urals and part of the border between Europe and Asia. He reached in the eastern heights of up to 405 meters. The northern slope of the Obschtschi Syrt is covered by deciduous forests, while the southern slope to the Caspian Sea basin towards steppe character.
