Obturator foramen

The obturator foramen ( " clogged hole " even obturator foramen ) is a large opening in the bony pelvis. It is made from the pubic bone and the ischium. The obturator foramen is a tough connective tissue membrane ( obturator membrane ), the musculus obturator internus and obturator externus muscle the largely closed. Only one opening for cable cars - the obturator canal - remains free, by the pull of the obturator nerve and the saphenous and obturator artery.

The edge of the obturator foramen is human various projections that are variable, that do not occur in each individual:

  • The anterior tubercle obturator is located in the upper front part of the rim.
  • The posterior tubercle obturator is located in the upper rear part of the rim, but lacks occasionally and is in the radiograph rarely represented.
  • More tabs: Individually more or less pronounced projections may also occur at the other edge. It is debatable whether it is anatomical variations or reactions of the bone in the sense of an exostosis.
