Occipitalis muscle

The occipital muscle (Latin for " Hinterhaupsmuskel " ) together with the musculus frontalis musculus occipitofrontalis, the two bellies of the muscles on the galea aponeurosis, tendon plate stand, in conjunction. The muscle is one of the scalp muscles.

The M. of the occipital function is to smooth the frown, the frown on the front belly of the occipitofrontalis, so the musculus frontalis omitted. However, the paralysis of M. occipitalis has no apparent effect on facial expressions.

M. occipitalis is Innervated through the occipital ramus of the posterior auricular nerve, a branch of the seventh cranial nerve, from which all facial muscles are innervated.
