Ochakiv

Ochakiv (Ukrainian Очаків; Russian Очаков / Otshakoff, Romanian Oceacov, Turkish Crimean Tatar: Özü ) is a Ukrainian port city in the Mykolaiv Oblast with about 13,500 inhabitants and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Geographical Location

Ochakiv located on the Black Sea coast at the mouth of the Dnieper -Bug Liman - and - Beresan Liman 59 km southwest of the Oblastzentrum Mykolaiv and 67 km east of Odessa.

History

Ochakiv was a strategically located at the mouth of the River Dnieper -Bug Liman - fortress of the Ottomans and entered repeatedly emerged as the stage of the Russian - Ottoman confrontation.

Known as the " Lying Baron " Munchausen wants to have his famous ride performs during the siege of this fortress in 1737 in the Russo- Turkish war on the Austrian cannonball.
