The Ocimene ( emphasis on the third syllable: Ocimene ) form a group of substances of isomeric unsaturated acyclic monoterpenes and thus belong to the hydrocarbons.
Representative
The isomeric representatives of Ocimene differ in the positions of the double bonds in the molecule or the arrangement of the substituents on the double bonds (cis -trans isomerism ).
Occurrence
α - ocimene was detected in pure lavender oil ( up to 3% ), β - ocimene is found in basil oil (Ocimum basilicum ) and ( Tagetes minuta, Asteraceae ) to a share of 41 % in the essential oil of marigold.
Properties and Uses
The Ocimene are isomeric to myrcene and phellandrene and are often present in the mixture. Her scent is reminiscent of pine and citrus fruit, so they are used as fragrances.
