Odakyu Electric Railway

The Odakyu Dentetsu K. K. (Japanese小田急 电 鉄 株式会社, Eng. Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd.. ) is a private railway company in Tokyo, Japan. Its main line connects Shinjuku in Tokyo Odawara in Kanagawa.

The Odakyu Dentetsu forms the core of the Odakyu Group, which consists of 108 Contractors in October 2005.

History

The 83 km stretch from Shinjuku to Odawara was put into operation on 1 April 1927. The track was one of the first privately built lines fully electrified and double track running. On April 1, 1929 made with the Enoshima Line, the Odakyu Electric Railway of the second route Co. in operation.

The company Odawara kyuko Denki Kido KK original name (Japanese小田原 急 行 电 気 轨道 株式会社, Eng. Odawara Express Electric Railway Co., Ltd.). was often abbreviated as kyuko Odawara ( Odawara Express ). Thus, the abbreviation later officially adopted by the company Odakyū ( Odawara kyuko ) was born.

On 1 May 1942 the Odakyu merged with Tōkyō -Yokohama Dentetsu (now Tōkyū ) operatively all private railway lines west and south of Tokyo. The business combination was disbanded again on 1 June 1948, Odakyu subsequently acquired large shares in the Hakone Tozan tetsudō. As of 1948, the main route between Shinjuku and Odawara was again served with the Limited Express without stopping.

Starting in 1950, had to be removed due to the rapid growth of the Japanese economy, the capacity of the Odakyu lines. Thus, the route between the stations Izumi- Tamagawa Setagaya- Daita and is now expanded to four tracks, so that in particular the Express trains could be offered in denser clock.
