The Odawara Line (Japanese小田原 线, Odawara - sen) is the main route of Japanese Odakyū Dentetsu. The executed in 1067 mm gauge line leading 82.5 km from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo by the south-western suburbs of Tokyo after Odawara in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is an important commuter route and is also known for its Romance Car limited express trains in the popular resort of Hakone. From Yoyogi - Uehara some trains continue on the Chiyoda Line and Joban Line.

Odakyu trains from Shinjuku towards Tama or Enoshima use a portion of the line before they branch off on their respective routes.

History

The first part of the line was opened on 1 April 1927.

Currently, a portion of the line between Setagaya- Daita and Kitami from two to four tracks will be expanded to increase the capacity and to separate local from express trains. Therefore it is necessary to move the tracks to a new elevated viaduct to avoid intersections. This has led to resistance among residents. The work on the section between Yoyogi - Uehara and Setagaya- Daita have started late due to the complexity of the design and difficulties with the purchase of land to Shimo- Kitazawa. Thus this piece remains a bottleneck.

Operation

The Odawara Line is operated with different holding and vehicles.
