Odie Cleghorn

James Ogilvie " Odie " Cleghorn ( born September 19, 1891 in Montreal, Quebec; † July 13, 1956 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player ( Right Wing ) and coach, from 1918 to 1928 for the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Pirates in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Together with his brother Sprague grew up in Montreal and learned to play hockey. In 1909 he went to New York, where he played in the Usaha. He returned a year later to Canada. One year he played at Renfrew Hockey Club in the NHA, before returning to league rivals Montreal Wanderers in his hometown. In his first season, 1918/19, he scored 17 goals and led so together with his teammates Newsy Lalonde 's top scorer list. From the season 1921/22 he played with his brother Sprague for the Canadiens. In the season 1923/24, the two won the Stanley Cup.

From the season 1925/26, he served as player-manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates newly established. As the keeper of the Pirates Roy Worters injured before a game, he even once to score his team. In the following two years he only played in a few games, if worst comes to worst was. After the 1928/29 season he was also on the coaching job.

He has always been closely connected with his brother. As Sprague died on July 11, 1956, it was hard on this. On the day of the funeral, he died of a heart attack itself.
