Ödön Radvány

Odon Radvány [ Odon rɒdva ː ɲ ] (* December 27, 1888 in Budapest, † March 11, 1959 in Budapest) was a Hungarian wrestler.

Career

Odon Radvány comes from Budapest and began at a young age with the rings. He was Jewish and a member of the Maccabi sports club VAC Budapest. Up to the age of 20 he became one of the best Hungarian wrestler at lightweight. Soon he came also to the world class, which consisted entirely of European athletes in the Greco-Roman style, the style that Radvány ranking. In 1910 he started in the domestic Budapest for the first time at a European Championship at lightweight (up to 70 kg body weight). But he had to let the more experienced wrestlers still go first and landed on the 7th Place.

In 1912, he succeeded in winning the European Championship in the lightweight ( to 67.5 kg of body weight), again in Budapest, the first title at an international championship in a well-staffed competition. In the same year he represented Hungary at the Olympic Games in Stockholm at lightweight, where he arrived on the 5th Place. After five victories, he failed at doing the Swede Erik Lund.

In 1913, he won again in Budapest, his second European title. With gottfrid Svensson from Sweden and Viktor Fischer from Austria, he had this to beat two very strong opponents. After the First World War interrupted the career of Odon Radvány.

After the war he launched in 1920 for the first time at a World Cup. In Vienna he secured it the first place. To win this world title were seven wins needed. In 1922 he was again to win at the World Championships in Stockholm on track for the world title until he was defeated in the last battle of the Finns Edvard Westerlund and had to be content with the runner-up title.

At the end of his career he took in 1924, after all, already 36 years old, in Paris for the second time in the Olympic Games in part. He trained to specially in the featherweight (up to 62 kg body weight) from. But it was not given the chance to win a medal. After two victories, he had two losses of the Arthur North Norway and Sweden's Erik Malmberg plug in, which made him land on the 8th Place. After he finished his career as an active wrestler.
