Odontosida magnificum is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The moths have a forewing length of 21-25 millimeters. The body and forewings have a gray color. The thorax and forewings are vividly colored in various shades of brown. Located centrally on the Costa loader is a dark greenish - brown triangle. The hind wings are bright yellow basally, the outer two -thirds wings are reddish brown and have a black spot near the Tornus.

The caterpillars are similar to those of Batocnema africana. You are deep green and pale blue marked on the back. An oblique blue stripe runs from the back of the fifth segment to the side of the fourth. Another oblique, blue stripe runs from the Analhorn down to the ninth body segment. The bluish Analhorn is erected. The head is triangular. The abdominal legs are green.

Distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from South Africa to Zimbabwe and lived in semi-arid landscapes such as the Karoo and the Bushveld.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed on Dovyalis caffra ( Salicaceae ).
