Odzaberd

The Urartian rock inscription of Zowinar located in the village Zowinar ( Ծովինար, formerly Kelagran ), Gegharkunik province on the southern shore of Lake Sevan. It is located on a rocky crash the fortress Odzaberd (snake Fortress), the ancient Teišebai URU. It is written in Urartian language in cuneiform and dates of King Rusa, son of Sarduri.

Inscription

Rusa tells how he has taken the following countries by the grace dḪaldis at once ( in the course of a campaign ) and subjected to:

" A total of 23 kings and one city, all these have I subjected ". Rusa reported on, as he has men and women deported to Biainili. He took their toll and destroyed its fortifications ( É.GALMEŠ ). He then reported on the construction of a fortress ( É.GAL ), to which he gives the name dIM -i URUKUR, City of Teišeba. It is used to power Biainilis and suppression of enemy countries.

The inscription concludes with the usual curse of the one who destroyed this inscription. The name of the called gods are not obtained by Melikišvili but can be probably the Sun God I thought I'd be reconstructed.

A first publication of the inscription dates from 1863. A poor copy of the inscription is located in the Armenian History Museum.

Fortress

The fortress of Zovinar ( Odzaberd ) has so far examined only provisional. Smith believed that the fortress, similar Aramus and Horom ( Dovri ) were built in a so-called "border -style ", takes the elements of the local Iron Age building practice.
