Features

The medium-sized moths have a wingspan of 48-58 millimeters. They have brownish front and rear wing with an indistinct yellowish outer binding, in which there are dark eyes. The individual variation is considerable, especially in terms of coloring and face value. Brighter, ocher- brown moths often have more and bigger eyes. The f.unicolor rbl. is almost solid black with gray faded ocher yellow napkin and small eyes. The brown form has a certain similarity to the ocher cohesive Samtfalter ( Hipparchia semele ), but can not be confused because of the presence at different altitudes. The egg is elongate with closely spaced longitudinal ribs and whitish in color.
