Oestriminis

In the Latin poetry was Oestreminis ( " Extreme / Ultimate West" ) - Finis terrae comparable - the name for the area of ​​today's Portugal. Its inhabitants were called derived from Oestrimni.

Mention is made in Ora Maritima Oestreminis ( " seashores "), a poem that was inspired and influenced by a much earlier issued Periplus Greek sailors. Rufus Avienus Festus, Roman poet geographical subjects of the 4th century writes there that Oestriminis was settled by the Oestrimni, a people that lived a very long time there and because of this, its original area of ​​settlement would have fled after an invasion of serpens. Serpens, Serpent, stands for a fabulous animal and can also hang mine.

The inhabitants of the semimythologischen " snake country " (see below) was known in ancient Greece by the name, the legend, there are no historical or archaeological evidence. The poetic name Oestrimni was temporarily used for all Palaeolithic inhabitants of the Atlantic Ocean situated in the part of the Iberian Peninsula.
