Oeversee

Oeversee [ øvɐze ː ] (Danish: Overso ) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. Frörup, Sankelmark and the nature reserve Butschimoor belong to the municipality.

Geography and transport

Oeversee is located about ten kilometers south of Flensburg on the treene and the historic Ox Road. To the west runs the Federal Highway 7 from Schleswig to Flensburg.

History

Fortified church

The Romanesque St. George's fortified church was built in the 12th century stone church.

Battle of Oeversee 1864

Gained fame Oeversee by a battle in the German -Danish War. On February 6, 1864 there met the allied with the Prussians Austrians of 6 kuk Army Corps to the Danes. During the few hour-long battle, the Austrians lost 28 officers and 403 enlisted men, the Danes, who came on the run in heavy artillery fire, 18 officers and 944 soldiers.

The inhabitants of about ten kilometers away Flensburg commemorate today the help of its citizens for the wounded on the day after the battle in a held annually from Flensburg to Oeversee Oeversee March.

On 24 March 1974, the former municipality was Frörup incorporates.

On 1 March 2008 the community Oeversee merged with the neighboring community Sankelmark that was re- formed on March 24, 1974 by the merger of the former municipalities Barderup and Munkwolstrup, the new community Oeversee.
