Of counsel

Of counsel (English in an advisory capacity ) is the name for a professional support in a law firm or a similar company who is involved outside of the company's internal organization only at certain special tasks as a professional. One of counsel employed person is usually an experienced, reputable and specialized to a particular law or technology field personality and operates the activity is not uncommon in addition to their main job.

In a large law firm, the term is used for lawyers who are employed outside the hierarchy of partners / equity partners and salaried lawyers ( " Associates " ) for certain mandates - often it is politicians or high school teachers, especially those in retirement.

In the U.S. the term is defined by the American Bar Association.
